Team Kochi are one of the two new teams in the competition and will start afresh with respect to their captaincy slate. They have an interesting set of players and almost three of them could take over the leadership – Mahela Jayawardene, Brendon McCullum and VVS Laxman. One gets the sense that it may not be too sensible to have Laxman as the captain, which makes it a two-horse race between Jayawardene and McCullum. Jayawardene has been a successful international captain while McCullum did not have the best of times at the Kolkata Knight Riders in the 2009 edition of the tournament. however, one gets the sense that the player who can play throughout the tournament will be named the captain.
